I love Bergen, it’s a really beautiful city, super pleasant, with lots of nice areas to visit. What’s more, there are so many things to do in Bergen, from cruises in the fjords to hiking… in short, Bergen is the perfect destination. And, best of all, the accommodation is really nice!
For Bergen has many historic buildings, several super cool neighborhoods made of wooden houses. And we have hotels located in these buildings, which makes for some really beautiful accommodation. That’s the great thing about Bergen: you can really indulge yourself when it comes to sleeping, on the Brygge quays for example, in wooden houses… There really is something for every taste and every budget!
Off-season accommodation is really affordable, with a lot of nice places to stay for around €100, even in good hotels. But in high season, the price can double. So it’s best to plan ahead. But really, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Where to stay in Bergen
Bergen is a bit like Oslo if you know it, but better. In other words, you’ve got the small, pleasant city center, the quays which are really nice and lively, and 2/3 really pretty neighborhoods with wooden houses.
My first piece of advice is to stay in the very center of town. Sentrum as they say here. Ok, it’s more expensive (although) but you’re 2 steps from everything. You’ve got the best hotels, you’ve got great buildings, you’ve got the docks. You don’t need to take public transport, it’s really convenient.
And then there are the wooden house districts, which are also great places to stay. Nostet or Nordnes, the two most beautiful wooden districts. Nostet is close to the center, but the Nordnes peninsula is really nice!
But also like Oslo, with its well-developed public transport network, you can easily stray a little from the center to find cheaper accommodation, like along Tram line 1.
And if you have a stopover, or just want to spend the night, you can always sleep at Bergen airport, where there are good hotels and it‘ s super-easy to get to from the center! It could be a good option.
The best hotels in Bergen
That’s easy! With surroundings like these, beautiful quays, historic buildings and magnificent neighborhoods, there are plenty of top-quality hotels to choose from. Like the city itself, some are a bit pricey, so that would be a treat, but they’re all worth it.
But if you come in the off-season, the prices can be really good! Let’s have a look.

And the very good news is that there are a few hotels for under €100 a night, or even around €70, in the center. Now, that’s out of season, as prices go up a bit in the summer. The hotels are not bad, often without service, so you’re on your own, but they’re comfortable and well located!

Which hotel to choose near Bergen airport
If you have an overnight stopover, if your flight is early in the morning or if you arrive late at night, then it may make sense to sleep at or near the airport. As with Oslo airport, Bergen also has several quality hotels either at the airport or within walking distance.
Even if you’ve got a whole day to spend in Bergen, staying at an airport hotel can be worthwhile, as they’re generally cheaper, and you can get to and from the airport by streetcar (49 NOK), so you don’t have to lug your luggage around.
There are the classic chains, with several price ranges, so let’s have a look.
