While preparing my trip to Gran Canaria (at the last minute, as usual), I quickly realised there were a lot of sights to see and places not to miss.
Writing them down is easy enough. And yes, it’s an island, it’s hard to get lost, I know. But to find your way around and above all to know which places are close to each other, so you don’t drive too much and make the most of each day, the best thing is to put them all on a map. That way you can see the distances and group your visits day by day.
That’s what I do to plan my days, and it works well! You spend more time visiting and less time driving.
So I’ve put everything on a single, very handy map. You’ll find:
- the villages to see
- the most beautiful natural spots and viewpoints
- places to stay
- hikes
- beaches and natural pools
- the main activities, at sea or on land
- guided tours
- practical info such as car hire from Gran Canaria airport
If you’ve already been on this site, you’ve probably seen this idea with my interactive map of Lanzarote
What’s on the Gran Canaria map
Here’s what you’ll find on this map:
- The most beautiful natural sites and viewpoints
- In Gran Canaria, you really mustn’t miss the centre of the island: the big canyons, the viewpoints, the mountains are stunning landscapes. I’ve marked the main spots, but every road should bring its share of surprises
- Towns and villages to see
- There are several nice little villages to see on Gran Canaria, each with its own character, so it’s worth visiting a few
- Beaches and natural pools
- Because if you come to Gran Canaria, it’s partly for the sun and the beaches, so here are the best ones, along with the natural pools, which are lovely
- A few hikes
- There are some nice walks in the mountains, especially around Pico de las Nieves and Roque Nublo, but really all over the place!
- Things to do in Gran Canaria
- Beyond the scenery, there’s plenty to do. You can enjoy lots of water activities like dolphin watching, a catamaran trip or diving… but there are also several surprising theme parks! And don’t forget the Poema del Mar aquarium!
- The best places to stay: affordable, good quality or with amazing views
- Gran Canaria has a huge number of places to stay. Very touristy ones, clubs, apartments, houses in the middle of nature: there’s something for every taste and every budget
- Guided tours
- Whether you want to learn more or you don’t have a car and still want to explore the island, guided tours are your best friends, and there are some excellent ones!
- Practical info
- A few useful tips on taxis, transport, flights and the airport
- Local producers
- There aren’t many, but I’ve marked the local coffee producers and the best chorizo on the island!

How to use the Google Maps map of Gran Canaria
It’s pretty simple. First, this Google Maps map is organised in LAYERS. A layer is a set of points of interest that I grouped by theme, and each layer is independent of the others.
In other words, the most beautiful places, the activities, the accommodation… are grouped by category. Why? Because it lets you display the layers one at a time.
So if, for example, you’re not interested in the accommodation layer, or you only want to see the activities, you can hide the others by unticking the matching boxes (see the example just below, it’s super easy)
Of course, it works just as well on a phone as on a computer. Very handy.

The other maps on Vincent Voyage
Because I find them so useful, these interactive maps are something I try to develop as much as possible. They really help you plan your trip and optimise it, even once you’re on the road. Well, it works for me! So I hope it does for you too 😀
You can see straight away where the must-see places are, without wasting time. At least that’s how I see it!
This Gran Canaria map is my second one for the Canary Islands. I’ve already made the map of Lanzarote, which is very handy too.
I’ve also made some for other countries that might interest you if you like the idea:
- the best map of Iceland with all the most beautiful places
- the essential map of Cusco
- the Loire Valley map with the most beautiful châteaux
- the Périgord-Dordogne map with all the places to see
- Map of the most beautiful places in the Lofoten Islands
- Map of Tromsø and its region
- The essential map to discover Senja
- The map of the Norwegian fjords
Conclusion
There you go! I think I’ve put as much information as possible on this map, everything you normally need to discover the best of Gran Canaria, an island with a lot to offer, much more than people think! If you know other Canary Islands, you’ll notice quite a contrast with the island of Lanzarote, for example.
My advice would be to take the time to explore the centre with its mountains, its canyons and all the beautiful viewpoints. It’s impressive! And it makes a change from the beach 🙂 Also discover villages like Teror or Agüimes, which are full of surprises.
Anyway, I hope this map really helps you find your way around the island and work out which places interest you most, so you can enjoy your holiday even more 🙂
